Internet of Things (IoT)

A decade of success – Vodafone

We’re delighted to be positioned as a Leader in the report 10 times in a row.

For 10 years, we’ve seen the IoT market develop, grow and mature into the global business it is today.

There is no doubt that IoT is the key to digitalisation – and our managed connectivity services have been the key enabler to the digital transformation of many companies around the world.

And we are now set to hyperscale IoT.

We started with just 17 million connections in 2014. Today we have over 175 million connections, stretching across 175 countries. We have the largest LPWA footprint globally, in 92 countries.

Vodafone IoT is becoming a standalone company1, one that is dedicated to managed connectivity. Vodafone’s managed IoT connectivity service and Global IoT SIM have become the gateway to the Internet of Things, making it simple to connect anything, anywhere. This helps us bring the benefits of IoT to more customers in more countries than ever before.

And we aren’t doing it alone. We are bringing together partners, investors and technology to create the IoT eco-system for the next decade. The recent announcement with Microsoft starts the ball rolling, with the potential to access new technologies such as Gen AI and to deploy these at scale for IoT.

Erik Brenneis, CEO of Vodafone IoT, said:

“It has been very rewarding to see how the IoT market has evolved over the past 10 years. I am proud we are at the forefront of this rapidly developing global market.

“But what is most satisfying for me is seeing how we’ve helped our customers – from enabling smart production lines to identifying leaking water pipes, from optimising supply chains to creating more efficient farming methods. And IoT is helping create a greener, more sustainable future for us all, whether it’s protecting Atlantic salmon or monitoring tree growth to help tackle climate change.

“I thought the last ten years had been exciting. But now I can’t wait for what is coming next. IoT is no longer just a technology it’s an operational asset that companies rely on each and every day.”
